For over 30 years now, Ronkini Gupta has been studying Hindustani music under the aegis of some of the finest musicians and musicologists of the country. Guided by practitioners of different styles — Pt. Chandrakant Apte, Pt. Samaresh Choudhury, Ustad Dilshad Khan, Ustad Abdul Rashid Khan (Rasanpiya) and currently Arshad Ali Khan – she has developed a distinctive voice over the years.

Known for her pitch precision and unique taan patterns, Ronkini has presented recitals at prestigious stages across the country and abroad; Sawai Gandharv Mahotsav Pune, Maharana Kumbha Festival Udaipur, Patiala Heritage festival, Saptak Sammelan Ahmedabad, Doverlane Music Conference Kolkata, Udayaswar at Prithvi Theatre among others.

Ronkini’s voice has been well-received through cinema as well, with chartbusters such as ‘Rafu’ from ‘Tumhari Sulu’ and ‘Chaav Laag’ from the film ‘Sui Dhaaga’ earning her Filmfare nominations. The Marathi song ‘Tula Zapnaar Aahe’ won her the Zee Talkies- Maharashtra’s favorite singer award in 2020. In 2023, she received the ‘Swar Kokila Lata Mangeshkar Award’. She recently won the Zee Gaurav Puraskar for her song “Asen Mi” from the film Uttar.

Ronkini has been fortunate to be appreciated by stalwarts Ustad Ghulam Ali, Jagjit Singh, Chitra Singh Girija Devi, Sitara Devi, M.M. Kreem, O.P. Nayyar during the World Series of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa.  More recently she has been commended by Maestro A R Rahman as one of his favourite classical vocalists of all times and has also collaborated with him on his film projects.

For a decade now she has been helping students of music understand grammar and discover a niche identity for themselves.
