About

Formed during the lockdown in Goa, the Tasawwur Qawwali Ensemble is a group dedicated to the rich tradition of Sufi Qawwali music. The ensemble breathes life into the timeless poems of ancient Indian an Persian poets, creating a unique blend of Indian and Persian musical intricacies. With a lineup of exceptionally talented musicians, the group has quickly gained recognition for its powerful performances and deep connection to the roots of Qawwali music.


Shivam Bhardwaj
is the lead vocalist of the ensemble. A trained Hindustani Dhrupad vocalist and tabla player, Shivam learned tabla under the tutelage of Ustad Faiyaz Khan of the Dilli Gharana. Currently, he continues his training with Padmashri Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar. Shivam’s artistic dedication has opened doors to collaborate with the renowned A.R. Rahman on an upcoming epic film, along with Salim Suleiman for a Sufi Qawwali project. Additionally, he recently performed with Lucky Ali for MTV Unacademy Unwind. Yash Nirwan, brings the enchanting sounds of the Sarod to the group, Trained in Hindustani classical music, Yash has honed his skills under the guidance of his father, Om Prakash Nirwan, Dada Guru Pandit Mani Prasad, and Sarod expert Pandit Sunil Mukherjee. His versatility shines through in his ability to fuse classical music with contemporary styles, making cach performance a unique experience. Yash has shared his music at top festivals like Magnetic Fields Festival, Sunburn, Vhl Supersonic, and Vivaan-India Handpan Festival, and recently performed with Lucky Ali for MTV Unacademy Unwind.


Saksham Bhardwaj
is a Hindustani classical vocalist and music producer from New Delhi, India. He has recorded with A.R. Rahman for the feature film ‘Ponniyin Selvan (PS-1).” Saksham trained under Mr. A. Shiv Prasad Rao in the Gwalior, Jaipur, and Agra Gharanas He released his debut single “Suna Pada Angna,” an independent release that showcases his vocal prowess and creative talent.

Varun Sharma adds another layer of depth to the ensemble with his melodious voice, enhancing the group’s overall sound. Varun’s contributions make the ensemble’s performances even more powerful and captivating


Amarjeet Singh
, with almost two decades of professional experience, is the backbone of the Tasawwur Qawwali Ensemble as its tabla player. Hailing from the renowned Patiala Gharana of Ludhiana, Punjab Amarjeet’s style reflects his deep love for classical, Sufi, and Qawwali genres. His journey began with performing Kirtans at Gurudwaras and training under the illustrious Wadali Brothers and Ustaad Jitendra Pal Singh. Amarjeet’s performances have been lauded in several music festivals and concerts, making him a significant figure in the world music fraternity.
